Judy Hamilton - 'Along the Shoreline'
29 May - 21 June, 2008 Untrodden Sunlit Trail, Judy Hamilton, 2008, 30 x 36 inches, oil on linen

This new exhibition of paintings by Judy Hamilton marks a departure in the artist's work. Earlier shows have focused on the sea and shore, but a recent move to a new studio in Dromineer, Co. Tipperary has lead the artist to explore the dense, wooded landscape on the shores of Lough Derg. The resultant paintings lead the viewer into mysterious, tangled copses, studded with pools of blue bells, before leading us out to wide, serene views of the lake and sky.

Judy was born in Dublin in 1954 and has studied at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin as well as at the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology. Hamilton is a landscape painter of great skill and sensitivity. Her colour pallet, although muted and naturalistic at first glance, contains flashes of vivid brilliance. This exuberant sense of colour, coupled with her exhilaratingly gestural brush work mark her out as an artist of exceptional talent. Her paintings are in the collections of the Dun Laoghaire and Rathdown County Council, City Bank, Dublin; City Bank, London; Hewlett Packard; IBEC; the Blackrock Education Centre; the Office of Public Works and A.I.B. Bank.
