Seán McSweeney C.V.
Seán was born in Dublin in 1935. He is now based in Sligo where the local landscape provides the inspiration for his paintings. His work concentrates on the phenomenon of the bog pool - deep rectangular incisions in the surface of the bog that are caused by the practice of harvesting turf - and the dramatic Sligo coastline.
He is a member of Aosdána and his work is represented in the collections of the Arts Councils of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork, the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Dublin and the Ulster Museum Belfast. A monograph was published on his work in 1996.
